The Internet and Anonymity

I was on a YouTube bender today and it got me thinking about the wonders of the internet. I mean, the web has opened up this whole world of possibilities for those with the talent and inclination to pursue them. I sometimes think about my talents, though they are few and unimpressive, and whether I have a chance to leave my mark in the world of webs which are wide.

As you may know if you've paid close attention to this blog, I have long considered starting a web-comic. I've actually drawn about 5 strips on Gimp, but I don't have the patience or the drive to keep going with it.

I've been pressed by some to commercialize the Bunny Box, getting an actual copyright on it and trying to sell T-shirts and things. But the problem is, unless there was some kind of background for it, I just don't think anyone, other than my friends, would buy it. But who knows? It could just be weird enough to become a meme if I gave it the chance (like Three Wolf Moon, maybe?).

But if there's one thing the interwebs has taught us, it's that memes are born, not manufactured (unlike terrorists. [see that? Self-reference! I'm halfway to fame already!]).

So this brings me back to YouTube. Could I make use of YouTube? I mean, look how big that whole "Trip to Miami" video got. (Did that get outside of the Orthodox world? No clue.) But I just don't know what I'd do. I'm not one for monologues, and I'm not crazy about the idea of a vlog. I don't have the talent or patience to produce any kind of REAL movies. The best I could manage would be to just play with stuffed animals in front of a camera, but somehow I don't think anyone would watch that. Not even my mom would watch that. Not even I would watch that.

So I'll stick to where I'm comfy.

The blogosphere: A place where I can drift in familiar anonymity. A place where I can write about whatever pops into my head, be it cookies, politics, crafts, or my megalomania. A place where the buffalo roam...that I can call home? Something like that.

As a wise sage once said, "If I don't see ya here, I'll see ya here."

I find it funny you say you're not one for monologues, because there's a youtuber (Elmify) who reminds me of you for some funny reason... Oh, yeah, and she does vlogs (video blogs - monologues). lol You should totally check her out.

As for the idea to use puppets for a youtube version of your comics, while that's really funny, it sort of reminds me of a video I saw of these two guys who use stuffed animals (both monkeys) to have conversations with people on chatroulette. You can find those on youtube, as well, by searching for "chatroulette monkeys" or "Jethro and Jeffrey".

Either way, hatzlacha with whatever you decide to do! I'm sure you could become a meme if you really put your heart into it. ;)

Strawberry Picking

It's strawberry season, ladies and gents! Of course, it's almost over. And of course, while strawberry season comes to a close, I'm only just getting around to it. But yesterday I headed out to Baugher's Farm to pick them for myself.  I brought along my mom and my daughter, both of them first timers!  They basically just sat on the bench while I did all the labor, but they enjoyed the beautiful weather and the sprawling green landscape. As you can see, I got a decent amount.  Still, the pickin's were slimmer than I'd hoped. Coconut Milk Caramel

Some of you may recall my history with candy-making is...not great. You may recall the " fudge fiasco " of 2011, or the apple cider caramels I made for mishloach manos one Purim a couple years back that took all day and came out so awful I didn't even post about them. Well, ever since those awful experiences, I've pretty much avoided any kind of candy recipes.  Cooking sugar on the stove has just been a major no-no for me.  I've made a few simple syrups, but I did so begrudgingly and with great trepidation. I've even seen these seemingly simple microwave caramel recipes floating around, but I've been too scared to attempt them. Ok, I was supposed to post by this past Sunday and didn't. Sorry to all of my avid readers! (All two of you.) Nothing very interesting has been going on. The challahs I baked a couple weeks ago came out delicious and I'm definitely going to make them again in a week or so. This time, though, I'm going to make them smaller so I can have more of them. In other news, my semester is soon to be over. I have my final next Thursday and today was my last day of class. Woot! Following this, I've got a few weeks with no school so I can hopefully get some more work hours in, or at least get some other things done in the free time. Then, on January 17th, it's off to Israel for my brother's wedding (which will be in B'nai B'rak on January 25th.)
